Love your local wine labels this summer

Member for Chaffey Tim Whetstone MP is urging Riverland locals and visitors to show their support for the region’s wine industry while enjoying the summer holiday season.

Mr Whetstone has launched his Local Labels campaign to highlight the wide range of Riverland wines available for purchase from wineries, liquor stores and venues like hotels, clubs, cafés and restaurants.

“This summer is the perfect time to celebrate all of the exceptional wines that our region produces, while also sending a clear message that this is an industry worth fighting for,” he said.

“With year after year of wine grape prices that are well below the cost of production for local growers, our industry is crying out for support. The least we can do is make sure we’re selecting a Riverland wine wherever we can.

“Any chance to boost demand is bound to have a positive ripple effect for the local economy, and shows growers that we’re thinking of them during this difficult time.

“Whether you’re out enjoying a meal with friends and family, stocking up for your Christmas and New Year gatherings or visiting one of our many unique cellar doors, your choice to Shop Local is more important than ever.”

Opportunities to both sample and purchase local wines include the Riverland Wine Centre, where more than 30 wineries are all represented in the one location.

With a wide range of varieties available to try, Riverland Wine Centre co-owner Andrew Caire said there was something to suit everyone’s palates and price points:

“Visitors to the Wine Centre are keen to try the region’s offerings and are excited by the expanding varieties being bottled by Riverland wineries. The Riverland is now beginning to be recognised as the ‘new region’ to taste.”

Mr Whetstone’s launch of the Local Labels campaign follows his recent Stock Local mailout encouraging all of the hotels and clubs in the Chaffey electorate to expand their selection of Riverland wines.

“We should all be proud of the wine the Riverland produces in the same way that other regions are. It doesn’t make sense to me that local venues wouldn’t stock as much local product as possible,” he said.

“While there are some great role models out there, there’s also a lot of room for improvement. We all need to be ambassadors for our region, and that starts with supporting local businesses.

“It also extends to welcoming visitors, helping them find their way around and making sure they have a great experience while enjoying everything that makes the Riverland the best place to be.”
