First Appointments to Minister's Recreational Fishing Advisory Council

The Marshall Liberal Government is delivering on its election commitment to establish a Minister’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council with the appointment of four members representing recreational fishing organisations.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone said he was pleased to appoint experienced recreational fishers - Tracey Tito, John Thomas, Ian Fitzgerald and Graham Keegan to the Council.

“Having received nominations from key recreational fishing organisations I am very pleased to appoint the first four members to the Council,” said Minister Whetstone.

“In addition to the organisational representatives, there will be five individual member positions on the Council for those with expertise in recreational fishing and nominations are now open until 11 February.

“This is a unique opportunity to contribute to South Australia’s recreational fishing sector and be a voice for recreational anglers.

“Of the five individual member positions there will be at least one female member, one inland fisher and one person representing the tackle sector.

“Those who nominate for the Council have the chance to describe themselves to voters, including where they fish, relevant knowledge and experience, and a ‘pitch’ to explain why they believe they are suitable to be on the Council.

“Consultation conducted last year showed overwhelming support from recreational fishers for the creation of the Minister’s Recreational Fishing Council and I encourage you to nominate.

“If you don’t have online access at home to nominate, I encourage you to visit your local library, or the Kingscote, Mt Gambier or Port Lincoln Primary Industries and Regions SA offices.”

The Minister’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council will directly engage with the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development on recreational fishing issues.

The Council will provide feedback and advice to government on important recreational fishing issues and initiatives. To nominate for one of the five individual member positions available or for more information visit www.yourSAy.sa.gov.au/fishing

Public voting to select the five individual candidates will occur between 18 February and 18 March, 2019.
