Liberal MPs demand Public Works Committee take further contamination evidence

Liberal Members of the Public Works Committee will today demand that the Tonsley Redevelopment Committee is recalled so that further contamination issues can be discussed in light of the recent Clovelly Park contamination crisis.

Liberal Members of the Public Works Committee will today demand that the Tonsley Redevelopment Committee is recalled so that further contamination issues can be discussed in light of the recent Clovelly Park contamination crisis.

The Tonsley Redevelopment Committee gave evidence to the Public Works Committee earlier this year, before the recent Clovelly Park contamination crisis came to light.

“Over the past 23 days, we have seen the Weatherill Labor Government lurch from crisis to crisis over its incompetent management of the Clovelly Park crisis,” said Committee Member Michael Pengilly.

“While the State Liberals continue to act responsibly on this contamination crisis, the Weatherill Government continues to let down the residents of Clovelly Park and Mitchell Park.

“That’s why, it is imperative that the Government accepts the State Liberals’ request to recall the Tonsley Development Committee so that we can discuss contamination issues in the area following the revelation of the Clovelly Park contamination crisis.”

“The Presiding Labor Member of the Public Works Committee is the Member for Elder, Annabel Digance, whose electorate takes in the latest contamination zone,” said Committee Member Tim Whetstone.

“I would hope that Ms Digance understands the importance of the Tonsley Redevelopment Committee being recalled to the Public Works Committee, so that further information can be evaluated.

“This is also important given that plans for the Tonsley site include a TAFE redevelopment, residential development and a Business Centre.”
